Adjara, officially the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, is amazingly beautiful Black Sea coast in Georgia, with exotic plants and mild subtropical climate. The place has been inhabited since New Stone Age. It is filled with all shades of green even in winter. There are two main climatic zones in Adjara – foreland with its sub-tropical zone and the mountainous zone. Adjara is bordered by Turkey to the south and the eastern end of the Black Sea.
The main relief is mountainous. Almost 60% of the region’s territory is located at the altitude of more than 1000 m above the sea level. The highest mountains rise more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level. Coastal climate and soils are favorable for tea and citrus growth. There are large tea plantations and citrus production. Some of the region’s many natural resources are gold, silver and mineral water springs. The most important monuments are: Gonio fortress, The Church of the Virgin (20th century), the wooden mosque and the Tsikhisdziri fortress.
As a touristic attractions, main sea costs in Adajara are Batumi (capital of Autonomous Republic of Adjara), Kobuleti (western Georgia, town in Adjara) Gonio, Kvariati and Sapri (a border villages on the coast of the black sea, between Turkey and Georgia) These are the territories which are always crowded by the tourists every time of year, especially in summer and in September.
Batumi is a seaside city on the black Sea cost and the capital of Adjara. With a population of 190, 000 (2013 census), Batumi serves as an important port and a commercial center. It is situated in a subtropical climatic zone. While industries of the city include shipbuilding, food processing and light manufacturing, most of its economy revolves around the tourism. Since 2010, the face of the city has been transformed by the constructions of new high-rise landmark buildings and the renovation of the old town.
Today, Batumi is one of the main attractions of Georgia, visited by thousands of people each day. Its infrastructural growth, new accommodations and touristic attractions, different events and festivals, make the place one of the favorites, not only among the tourists but among the Georgians as well. Highest season of the sea resort is of course summer, but Adjara, especially Batumi is amazing place to visit during any season, will it be winter, spring or autumn, as this place gives special and unforgettable emotions to its each visitor.
